There are four major schools of fiqh in Sunni Islam: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali. Each school has its own methodology and interpretation of the sources. However, they all agree on the fundamentals of faith and respect each other's opinions. The Shafi'i school of fiqh was founded by Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i (767-820 CE), who was a descendant of Prophet Muhammad and a student of Imam Malik ibn Anas (the founder of the Maliki school).

One of the most popular and influential books of fiqh in the Shafi'i school is Kitab Safinatun Najah (The Ship of Salvation). It was written by Sheikh Salim bin Sumair al-Hadrami, a scholar from Yemen who migrated to Indonesia in the 17th century. The book is widely studied by students of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia, especially those affiliated with the Nahdlatul Ulama movement. In this article, we will explore the contents and features of this book and its author. 25c41cae91
